Return Table

I'm thinking I may have a touch of that lack of daylight depression but we all know that there's nothing like a little retail therapy to cure what ails ya (as well as the knowledge that the days are surely getting longer.

When my in-laws were in for the holidays my sister-in-law Mary and I went out junk shopping (which is our tradition when she's in town and it's not garage sale season.) At one of our favorite thrift stores, after exhausting the book and CD selection I wandered over to the record section and ended up buying more LPs than I have in a decade.

I only bought 2 albums but there are both choice and things that I've never owned in any format. The first one is Keith Jarrett- The Koln Concert, a nice 2 disk live set from the mid seventies, and the other is The Coleman Hawkins Set on the Verve label and it includes one side recorded in Carnegie Hall in 1950 and the other at the Chicago Opera House in 1957. The main thing that caught my eye on this record was that it was in it's original shrink wrap, unopened.

I confess that as of yet I haven't dropped the needle on either one of there treasures but I'm looking forward to cranking up the old Victrola some time soon. My turntable is hooked up to the speakers on the patio so when the weather turns brighter I may treat the whole neighborhood to the pop and crackle of 12 inch vinyl.
